Founded in
London in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist
organization with over one million members worldwide. Amnesty International is
dedicated to freeing prisoners of conscience, gaining fair trials for political
prisoners, ending torture, political killings and "disappearances,"
and abolishing the death penalty throughout the world.
The CBA chapter of Amnesty International has been fighting for human rights
for nearly a decade. Not only does AI align itself on the side of justice, we
at CBA feel that we are continuing in the footsteps of Christ and St. John Baptist
de la Salle. Protecting the rights of our brothers and sisters around the world
is truly Christian work. From vigorous letter writing campaigns for prisoners
of conscience, to clothing, food, and blanket drives for refugees, to free lectures
on any number of topics concerning human rights, CBA Amnesty International has
been providing the CBA community with one of the greatest assets free people have:
an opportunity to act.
