At least 50 runners, including 15 alums, friends of CBA, current students, and refugee children sponsored by Catholic Charities hit the track on Friday, May 2nd, despite the cold and rainy conditions, for a “fun run” held during the Brother Basilian meet. The annual event benefits the Robert Carsky ’73 Memorial Scholarship fund.
Runners and spectators raised close to $7000 for the scholarship named for Bob Carsky who was killed in a bombing in the war-torn, Ivory Coast of Africa in November 2004. Carsky, a noted philanthropist and scientist, spent two decades in Africa, working on improving agricultural conditions. Bob’s parents, Dr. Ed and Mrs. Pat Carsky, presented awards to the winners of the boys’ 1600 meter and girls’ 1500 meter events. Bob’s sister, Lanie and her husband, Matt, along with their son, Matthew, daughter-in-law, Jen, and their infant daughter, Avery cheered on the runners, as well. It was truly an inspirational, CBA family event. Our gratitude to Stephen Bowman ’77 and Dick Driscoll ’74 for their tireless efforts towards the success of this event.
