Alumni Boston Event - 2009

On May 20th, Michael Young ’82 and his wife, Mary (Hettler) hosted an intimate gathering of Boston area alumni, family, and friends at their lovely home in Wellesley, MA. The Youngs prepared a delicious selection of hors d’oeuvres, salads, sliders, and desserts for the most appreciative and satisfied group. Those in attendance relaxed on the lawn, until well after dark, sharing stories of their CBA years and their lives since leaving the school.

Mary and Michael’s paths first crossed in kindergarten, in Liverpool, and they were separated when Michael attended CBA and Mary remained in public schools. The couple met again at a reunion for their alma mater, Niagara University, and they have not been apart since. Michael is most grateful for the direction, discipline, and focus offered to him by the Brothers and faculty at CBA. Although not a CBA alum, Mary has very close ties and fond memories of the school as well. Her Father, Nelson, graduated in 1940, and her brothers, James ’70, Mark ’73 and Thomas ’83 are proud ‘Brothers’ boys.

Patti Callahan, Director of Development; Annemarie Mosley, Campaign Manager; and Helen Kelley, Coordinator of Alumni and Annual Fund were on hand to answer questions about the students, programs, facilities, and the progress of To Be the Best Campaign. The consensus among those gathered is that CBA offers an exemplary education, extensive athletic program, and varied extra and co-curricular activities for a cost well below that of comparable New England private college preparatory schools. All agreed that their CBA experiences were invaluable in molding them into the successful professionals, community leaders, and parents they have become.

The following alums were in attendance:

Mike Diamond ’74 Greg Girard ’72 Bill Muench ’70
John Rizzo ’83
Michael Young ’82
John E. Wilson ’62

We look forward to hosting this event every spring, and with the help of these attendees, hope to round up even more Bostonians to join us for next year’s reception. If you are interested in this or other regional alumni events please contact Helen Kelley at hkelley@cbasyracuse.org.
