Over 150 golfers (including a female foursome) hit the links at Tuscarora Golf Club in Marcellus on Monday, June 28th for an afternoon of competition and camaraderie. After a great barbeque lunch, the shotgun was fired on time and as planned, to begin the tournament. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans - after 3 holes played, a torrential downpour drenched the players and the course, and after an hour of steady rain, the Scramble was scrapped.

Over 150 players board their carts to begin the Alumni Golf Scramble.

Women’s group: Jody Murphy, Judy Stelljes, Sarah (Vanderloo) Chmelicek ’92, and Laura (Murphy) Nardella ’92.

The clubhouse teemed with soggy, but unruffled golfers. As a testament to the flexibility and tenacity of the ‘Brothers,’ many stalwart individuals stayed to enjoy the free-flowing conversation and liquid refreshments. John (Bucky) Murphy won the 50-50 raffle prize of $645, and generously bought a round of drinks for all in attendance! Richard Carroll’s beer donation was much appreciated by the crowd and thanks to the quick work of caterer, Nora Roesch and her staff; the steak dinner buffet was served several hours earlier than usual.

The rain did not ruin any of these gentlemen’s appetites!

The tournament has been rescheduled for Monday, September 13th for all registered players. Over 40 companies and individuals purchased hole signs, and Evans and Bennett, LLP and Bottar and Leone, PLLC served as Event sponsors for the lunch. These sponsors’ signs and banner will be displayed again at September’s event. The Giamartino family donated raffle prizes and gift certificates from Tully’s and CopperTop restaurants, and John Marshall provided a foursome to Sunset Ridge. These prizes will be awarded at the rescheduled tournament.

The tournament is the only fund-raising event for the Alumni Association, which supports a $1000 Distinguished Senior Award; $2000 for 5 Alumni Scholarships; and the many alumni events held throughout the year.
