Over a dozen alumni skaters hit the ice at the NYS Fairground Coliseum on Saturday, March 6th for the 10th Annual John Downes Memorial Hockey Game. This year’s event was particularly significant, as exactly 30 years ago (to the day), the CBA hockey team took second place at the State Championship in Lake Placid, NY, after winning the league and sectional titles.

The pace of the game was fierce, set by the much younger skating legs of a few of the alum’s children. Michael Gagliardi, CBA hockey coach for 18 years, was on hand with encouragement and memorabilia from the 1979-1980 season, including the scorebook, rosters, and championship pucks. The Downes family was well represented at the event by Dan ’91, Tim ’80, and Tom ’81. The attendees collected donations for the CBA Annual Fund, in memory of John Downes ’77
