Christian Brothers Academy’s graduation ceremony is a time honored tradition which includes a very special presider: the Bishop of the Diocese of Syracuse. Typically the first Sunday in June, the event includes the conferring of degrees and special departmental and memorial awards, speeches by the valedictorian and salutatorian of the class, and a celebration of the CBA tradition in which alumni connections are recognized for the entire class. In addition, the jubilee reunion class is recognized and honored with a gift and presents a class donation to the principal.
Each year in March, the CBA community gathers to recognize the academic achievements of its students at Honors Night in a formal academic ceremony. The faculty assembles and processes in full academic regalia to preside over the event. School administrators present awards for General Excellence for each grade to the top 2 students and certificates to students earning Honors and High Honors based on the prior year’s grade point average. Current juniors are presented with college book awards and some individual scholarship awards are given to underclassmen. National Merit Scholars – finalists and commended students are recognized. The Lasalle Chapter of the National Honor Society conducts a commitment ceremony and inducts its newest members. Also on this night, the school community honors the Lasallian Educator of the Year and those teachers who mark their 25th anniversary at the school.
CBA Student Senate is an elected body, representing the high school age students, which plans and oversees social events at the school. The group meets weekly with its advisor, a member of the school faculty, to coordinate events such as Spirit Week, Homecoming and the Homecoming Dance, the Winter Semi-Formal, the annual Intramural Basketball tournament and others. The Senate also conducts service-oriented fundraising projects and volunteers for various CBA community events like the Lasallian dinner and auction and Open House.
