Seniors Andrew Romagnoli (24) and J.R. Zazzara (5) were named the Alumni Association’s Defensive and Offensive Players of the game in CBA’s 41-7 Homecoming victory over West Genesee on Friday. The No. 2 State ranked football team remained unbeaten and the No. 10 State ranked boys soccer team won all three of its games. Here’s a look back at last week’s action in Brothers athletics.
Senior J. R. Zazzara rushed for 58 yards on nine carries and completed 4-of-8 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns and senior Deshawn Salter rushed 15 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns as the Brothers defeated West Genesee 41-7 in front of a Homecoming crowd at Alibrandi Stadium on Friday. Zazzara was named Offensive Player of the Game by the CBA Alumni Association. Fellow senior Andrew Romagnoli who picked off a pass and scampered for a touchdown, and recovered a fumble to set up another touchdown, was named Defensive Player of the Game. The Brothers are now 4-0 and face Central Square on Friday.
Matt Stedman scored three goals and Paul Civello chipped in one as the team blanked Homer 4-0. Matt DePerro scored two goals and Monte Stroman and Zachary Zajdel each added one in a 4-0 win against Chittenango.
The biggest win of the week, however, was on Saturday when the team upset No. 2 State ranked Fayetteville-Manlius 3-1. Parker Johnson, Ian McConnell and Stroman chipped in goals for the Brothers. Mike Smith had 12 stops.
The team hosts Cortland tonight and travels to Jamesville-Dewitt on Saturday.
The boys golf team defeated Tully 194-223 and Cortland 202-204, but had its 63 match OHSL win streak snapped by Chittenango. Drew Derrenbacker and Jack Bellardini were low scores in all three matches.
The team faces Jamesville-Dewitt tonight. Section III Championships will begin on Wednesday.
Ariana Cavallaro, Hailey Dobbins and Eva Gordon each scored a goal as the girls soccer team blanked Chittenango 3-0. The team lost to Fayetteville-Manlius 3-0.
The team meets Mexico on Thursday.
The girls tennis team defeated Chittenango 6-1 and Fulton 5-2, but dropped a 4-3 match to Mexico. Against Chittenango, Meghan Macri, Mikayla Santulli and Evie Lopoo won their singles matches. Sarah Roberts and Elizabeth Sasser; Alison Croucher and Anna Kambhampaty; Erika Burghardt and Lauren DeLorenzo and DeLorenzo and Trisha Maini were victorious in doubles competition.
Macri, Lopoo and Croucher each won their singles matches against Fulton. Roberts and Sasser and DeLorenzo and Maini won their doubles matches against Fulton.
Santulli and Lopoo won their singles matches versus Mexico.
The girls swim team topped Skaneateles 93-82 on Thursday. Winners in their events included: 200 yard medley-Annie Fletcher, Erin Lumia, Katie Toole and Tessa Queri; 200 yard freestyle-Tessa Queri, Kendall Sangster, Erin Lumia and Annie Fletcher; 200 yard freestyle-Annie Fletcher; 200 yard IM-Julia Torell; 50 yard freestyle-Tessa Queri; Diving-Erin Wind; 100 yard butterfly-Julia Torell; 100 yard freestyle-Mary Frances Ierlan; 500 yard freestyle-Annie Fletcher.
The team lost to West Genesee 94-84.
The team meets Jamesville-Dewitt tonight and Mexico on Thursday.
The girls defeated Solvay 17-49. Gabrielle Schug, (20:14), Meredith Strott (20:52) and Emily Garlatti (22:01) finished in the top three.
The boys fell to Solvay 28-29. Jack Brower finished in second place with a time of 17:33. Jack Toole came in fourth place at 18:51 and Tom Culleton finished in sixth place with a time of 20:33.
