CBA student-athlete Charlie Ryan ’12 was selected MVP of the “Yankees,” a team in the Syracuse RBI (Reviving Inner City Baseball) program at Skiddy Park in Syracuse.
MVP Charlie Ryan ‘12
Ryan excelled as a left-handed pitcher with the lowest ERA in the league and put his team into a playoff game with 12 strike outs and only two hits. Additional CBA students involved in the RBI program this summer were: Bobby Anderson ’12, “Yankees” Team Captain Justin Brennan ’13, Mason Garlatti ’13 and John Valerio ’13.
A summer program open to children and teens, Syracuse RBI is a joint partnership between the Boys & Girls Club of Syracuse and the Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department. It was implemented to teach sportsmanship and teamwork and also in response to gun violence that took baseball away from the City of Syracuse park a few years ago. Run by volunteer high school and Little League coaches, the program has succeeded in bringing baseball back to Skiddy Park and joining together those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to interact.
