Six students from Mr. Jason Meanys (CBA Class of '98) Environmental Science class at Christian Brothers Academy participated in the Bay Scallop Bowl Competition at SUNY Stony Brook on March 3, 2012, which tested their knowledge of marine sciences. CBA alum Patrick Howe '08, currently a student at SoMAS (Stony Brook's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences), made the school aware of the competition and was on hand to meet the current students at the event.
Dom Facciponte 12 (Manlius), Kelsey Johnson 12 (Syracuse), Max Luthringer 12 (Syracuse), Emily Procopio 12 (Liverpool), Caroline Webster 12 (Syracuse), and Kristina Wendl 12 (Manlius) and Mr. Meany made the trip to Long Island to participate in the contest.
Sixteen teams from across New York State competed at this prestigious event. It was a round-robin style tournament, with morning and afternoon rounds. With a winning record in the morning, CBA made it to the afternoon round, placing seventh seed, then lost in a close match. The students did extraordinarily well as first time competitors.
