Getting to Know Mr. Horan

Junior Anna Kambhampaty recently sat down with religion teacher Mr. Horan. Horan has been teaching at CBA since 2003. He earned a BS in Marine Transportation, Humanities Study Area from SUNY Maritime College. He received a J.D. Cum Laude Law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and his permanent NYS Certification in Secondary Social Studies from Le Moyne College. His peers have also previously honored him as a Lasallian Educator of The Year.

Q: What out of school hobbies do you take part in? What got you interested in these?

A: “I spend time with my family, help out at my church. I cross-country ski. I cook. Being part of a large family growing up really got me into all these things.”

Q: What do you most look forward to in your workday?

A: “The relationships that I have with my students- sharing their ups and downs and getting to know them better.”

Q: If you were not a teacher, what would you be?

A: “I’d still be a lawyer. I was one for fifteen years before I started teaching.”

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

A: “My wife and Father Kevin Hannon. My wife works harder and more diligently for her patients than anyone I know, and at the same time, she is able to be an amazing wife and wonderful mother. Father Kevin helped me find my spiritual path and provided a wonderful friendship and guidance for me before he passed away.”

Q: If you could change any one thing about the world, what would it be?

A: “The inequality of love and resources.”

Q: If you were a color, which color would you be?

A: “Pacific Ocean Blue; it is unique, beautiful, transparent, and life-giving.”

Quick Facts:

Favorite book: Seeds of Hope by Henri Nouwen
