Getting To Know Mr. Marshall ‘02
Junior Jack Carpenter recently sat down with Academic Intervention Specialist Dave Marshall ’02. Marshall, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in General and Special Education from St. John Fisher College; a Master of Science Degree in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University; and a Master of Science Degree in Gifted Education from Hofstra University, started his new position at his alma mater last month.
In addition, Marshall is entering his eighth year coaching basketball at CBA. He has been the freshman coach for seven years, and begins his first year as the new junior varsity coach. Marshall has been the alumni representative on the Mission and Ministry Team for the last three years, as he assists in organizing the Annual Alumni Day of Service in the fall.
Have you enjoyed your first few weeks at CBA?
“Absolutely. The students as well as the staff have been tremendously welcoming to me, which has made my transition very easy and enjoyable.”
What are your responsibilities as an academic advisor?
“My job is to work with students who struggle a little bit with organization and/or study skills. I try to help them to develop these skills so that they are able to be successful in high school, college, and beyond college.”
What has been your favorite part about the job so far?
“I really enjoy working with the students. Another thing that strikes me is how the teachers look out for and care about the students. I can tell that the students enjoy working with the teachers. This student to teacher relationship is very important to me, and I take pride in getting to know all of the students that I work with.”
Being a former student at CBA, what does coming back into the CBA community mean to you?
“The number one thing that I focus on are the Lasallian values and virtues that are present in this community. After coaching here and being involved in many alumni organizations, I’ve been able to witness the growth and development of the school. The Lasallian values and virtues are exhibited in this building each and every day, and that made it extremely appealing to me to come back and work here.”
