Schug won the Division II (small schools) 200-meter race at the state championship held at Cicero-North Syracuse on June 7. Her time of 25.06 seconds beat her preliminary 200-meter time of 25.09 recorded the day before.
“It feels great,” Schug said. “I didn’t expect to win it.”
The last CBA female to win a state championship in track was Melissa Zajdel in 2008.
“From what I have heard, she (Zajdel) was pretty good,” Schug shared. “To be the second girl to ever win a state title in track at CBA means a lot to me.”
Senior Jack Brower and sophomore Tom SanGiacomo also competed in the state track championships. Brower placed ninth in the 800-meter dash and SanGiacomo finished 19th in the boys Division II 100-meter dash.
