Spring 2019 Alumni News
On Dec. 18, the CBA Alumni Association hosted its Annual Christmas reception and dinner which was a huge success this year! More than 60 CBA Alumni and family gathered to break bread at Vito’s Restaurant in Syracuse. To top off the evening, CBA Alumni Association President Mike Vavonese ’77 presented President Brother Joseph Jozwiak with a pledge for $25,000 for the comprehensive campaign Our Mission, Their Future. The Association is honored to be able to support the campaign, which will feature a new entrance where the legacy of CBA Alumni will be portrayed.
December 29th was a day for Alumni Sporting events! The annual John Downes ’77 Memorial Hockey game took place at the Onondaga Nation rink with post-game festivities hosted at Change of Pace, thanks to Bob Brazell ’73. A special shout out to the 1980 Championship Hockey team which was inducted into the Lasallian Athletic Hall of Fame last November.

That same evening on Randall Road, CBA Hoopsters-of-old took to Wleklinski Court for another epic battle of purple verses gold. Funny how the score works in that game with Tom Niland ’65 at the buzzer and behind the mic! Players and families were treated to a reception following the game in Callahan gym – Mario and Salvo’s pizza and wings – what could be better?

CBA alumni and friends gathered in the South for the Annual CBA-in-Florida receptions during February break. Brother Joe greeted alums in Ft. Lauderdale at the Lauderdale Yacht Club, in Tampa at the Centre Club and in Naples at the All-American Sports Bar. Our hosts this year included John Brilbeck ’64, Gary Giamartino ’70, Dan McCarthy ’66, and Sam Vavonese ’54. A total of about 40 CBA alums joined in at the three events, sharing stories, meeting new friends, and making connections all in the name of Christian Brothers Academy.
