Announcing Another State Championship
January 5, 2024

One of the “Five Core Principles of Lasallian Education” is “Quality Education.” The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools frequently defines “Quality Education” as, “More than facts, figures and skills. Genuine education forms a person slowly towards spiritual maturity and responsible character.”

Quite often, my LasallianLife anecdotes reflect on stories of the heart. One of the beauties of De La Salle's educational vision was that it was both practical and spiritual. Academic rigor formed students for daily, earthly, "success." Vigilance of the conscience formed students for eternal "success." For today, I want to share a recent New York State Championship of a different kind - one of the mind.

A few weeks ago, syracuse.com ran an article titled, “New York school districts ranked from 1 to 661 based on new test scores in math, ELA.” The article highlighted the highest performing local school districts on the 2023 New York State math and ELA exams. The article discussed the scores of our local public school districts and offered the following table of the highest performing school districts in New York State.

While the article profiled NYS public school districts, I am proud to share that CBA achieved 92% proficiency in ELA and 93% proficiency in math. These scores would place us as the highest performing public high school in NYS!

Our students arrive at CBA from 34 different school districts. It is a true testament to our faculty and staff members to achieve academic excellence while meeting the needs of students from a vastly diverse group of feeder schools.

The academic success of our students is tremendous but the true uniqueness of Lasallian education is found when "education forms a person slowly towards spiritual maturity and responsible character." Amazingly, our teachers, administrators, and entire CBA community develop each student in heart and mind - preparing them to live a purposeful and productive life.

Thank you to our teachers, staff members, students, parents, and alumni who support our students in their Lasallian Catholic education! We are proud to continue the “Quality Education” that was gifted to us from our Founder. Congratulations to all! May the academic success of Lasallian education, and championships such as this, continue for generations to come!
